The men, women, and children of catechetical age participated
in the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens which is the first
major liturgical celebration of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA).
As a parish community we welcomed and affirmed them in their desire
to follow Christ. Accompanied by their sponsors, they acknowledged before
those assembled their acceptance of the gospel of Christ and committed
themselves to a journey of faith under his guidance.
The catechumens (unbaptized) and candidates (previously baptized) are
signed with the cross to show that they now belong to Christ, and that
they are now to follow him on the way of the cross. Following the celebration
of the rite they received a bible and from this time on they are included
in the Catholic family household.
