Great Feasts of the Liturgical Year
Fr. James Conlon returned to St. Francis to present the history, scriptural
basis, and liturgical development of many of the great feasts we celebrate
in the Catholic Church.
Participants learned the difference between a Solemnity, Memorial, and
Feast, plus the order of precedence. We talked about liturgical seasons
and looked at how vestment color helps to explain the type of celebration.
Fr. James discussed major feasts of the Lord, of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, the Feast of All Saints, and then looked at two Saints: Cecilia and
Francis. He also talked about how some feast days can actually be connected
to special churches or other places in the life of the Church, for example,
the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica
