My favorite parts of the day where working together with people from Corpus Christi to unload the truck and enjoying a great lunch with them!  Chris Mollo

I especially enjoy seeing our parishioners sorting the food.   Roger Parlett

Please, plan to help on the next drive in November. You make it a success by helping with the many little jobs.

June 26, 2011, Groceries will be Delivered to Detroit

St. Francis’ Brigade Celebrates Corpus Christi
at Corpus Christi, Detroit, our twin sister parish.

You are invited on Sunday, June 26th, 2011, the feast of Corpus Christi, our St. Francis brigade in car-pool-groups will depart at about 10am in order to arrive before the 11am Mass at Corpus Christi, our twin sister parish in Detroit.    Yes, on the Corpus Christi feast day we plan to join them in the celebration, along with their excellent pastor, Fr. Don, at a particularly lovely liturgy with beautiful music.

After Mass we will enjoy lunch provided by Corpus Christi (donations accepted).  Then while our most able-bodied members unload several hundred bags of groceries from the truck, the children, elderly, and everyone else sort out the items so that for example, all the  cereal is on one table and all of the juice boxes are on another, and all of the spaghetti and sauce is on another.  You get the idea.  It is a simple task and a fun time to spend together for a great cause.  Also, this will be the day before camp, and so we will help prepare clean and decorate the space, classrooms and the kitchen, for the campers.

This year, on June 26, 2011, will be our 5th year in a row that St. Francis Parish has partnered with Corpus Christi in providing groceries for the "youth summer camp" meals where about 1600 meals are served each summer.    The youth camp programs are hosted at Corpus Christi Parish's Immaculate Heart of Mary Center, and are organized by Corpus Christi leadership, as well as, folks from a variety of other congregations in that Northwest Detroit neighborhood.   Each summer hundreds of children participate in the camp programs, and, 75% of those kids cannot afford the meals, so, our contribution of groceries really helps those children and families most in need.
