Cell Phones Needed to Prevent Domestic Violence
The "Call to Protect" is a domestic violence
prevention project to provide those persons at risk & in danger, with
instant access to help in the form of a wireless phone. The wireless
phones are preprogrammed so that the victim can reach help with the push
of a button.
The Notre Dame Club of Ann Arbor is assisting
with this program by collecting old cell phones, so they can be refurbished
and distributed to victims of domestic violence. The Club has collected
over 6,500 phones in the last 3 years, as of 09/29/2004. That's about
2000 a year. And, the Club will
continue its efforts.
From December 1, 2004, - January 16, 2005, 145
cell phones and their components were collected by the St. Francis
8th. grade confirmation class for the "Call to Protect" program.
(During particular seasons: St. Francis
Parish will have a collection box at the main entrance to the church, along
with a form that you can retain for tax purposes.)
Thank you for your effort.
All phones are delivered to Recellular Inc.
in Dexter. More
